5 Cocktail Lounges on the West Coast of Barbados
We wouldn’t really describe Barbados as a party island and the west coast is even more laid back than the south coast but when night falls, there are a number of bars and lounges that come to life and are well worth a visit. Here are some of our favourites:
1. West Bar
The West Bar sits at the heart of the upmarket Limegrove shopping complex in the centre of Holetown. Limegrove describes itself as a ‘lifestyle centre’ and is home to expensive designer brands, upmarket boutique shops, a deli and even a cinema but the West Bar is also a focal point, which comes into its own in the evening. As the drinks flow, enjoy the busy atmosphere with live music arranged on some evenings. More about West Bar
2. Drift Ocean Terrace Lounge
Drift is also in Holetown but adjacent to The Beach House restaurant and shares its small car park. This relatively new lounge bar has seafront wooden decking with bar stools perfectly positioned to watch the sun disappear over the horizon, cocktail in hand. The air-conditioned interior is often home to small art exhibitions and dress code is “No effort, No entry”. More about Drift
3. Cin Cin by the Sea
Cin Cin (pron. chin chin) is best known as a fine dining restaurant and we have enjoyed many fine meals here over recent years. But Cin Cin also has an extensive lounge bar with a huge glass wall overlooking Batts Rock Bay at Prospect, St. James. This is a perfect spot to spend the evening with friendly bar staff and occasional live music from Kevan Sahai (also seen at Mullins Bar and The Cliff Beach Club).
4. Scarlet
Situated on Payne’s Bay but on the opposite side of the road from the ocean, you’ll spot Scarlet from its bright red paintwork. It doesn’t look much from the outside but inside it has a great vibe. The mojitos couldn’t be fresher with mint and limes picked from the garden but there’s a choice of food here too as well as great cocktails. From creative nibbles (truffle butter popcorn) to local and international favourites, this is a great place to spend an evening.
5. Red Door Lounge
The Red Door Lounge is arguably one of the most renowned cocktail bars on the island. Situated on 2nd Street in Holetown, it is always buzzing with well-dressed party people and occasional celebrities. Sushi evenings and tapas complement the free flowing cocktails and the music keeps playing late (and loud) into the evening with sets from the likes of DJ Nana, DJ Bennyfacta and DJ Tonk.
